How to Create Your Resume

For some reason I keep finding people who continue to ask me for help with either a) finding them a job or b) creating a resume for them. Honestly though it is not hard to create a resume. I am going to share the important points to have on your resume along with an example of a brief resume with some of my experience in the past. Now keep in mind in the example below I did not list every single job, nor every single certificate/license/award etc. that I have received. I only choose to use a select few just so you could see how you would list multiple different items. I also use to work three jobs at a time so I do have a lot of jobs I can use on my resume depending on what the job I am applying to is. However, for this example I am just going to use five jobs that I have worked at in different time frames.
1- List your name and contact information (I always state that I am also allowed to work in the US)
2- List your most recent work experience along with a brief description of Responsibilities of the job along with a few skills.
3- Next list your education experience
4- List your skills. This includes speaking different language, knowledge of certain programs, certificates/awards you have received etc.
5- After all of this is listed our main body is done. From here you want to groups certain things. Therefore, you would mark “Work Experience” as a group, then “Schooling” would be another group and “Skills” would also be another group etc. Once you figure out what needs to be grouped you can then choose to create a heading title for the group then decide to italicize or bold any other smaller titles. For example, I made bold the actual jobs.
6- Lastly you do want a cover letter. Which I will go over in another blog, along with a list of references. I always say at least 3-5 references. They do not have to be previous coworkers or even supervisors. Heck almost all of my previous supervisors have left all of the jobs I worked too, therefore no one would be able to get a hold of them if I listed my previous jobs phone number to contact them at.
*Tip: List EVERYTHING in CHRONOLOGICAL order! Meaning the oldest job goes last. The most recent job comes first!*
