15 Questions: Pole Dance Edition

Heels or no heels?

Heels for sure. I love my heels. I do not wear them when I am learning new tricks, or taking a trick class but any other time I wear them. I feel like heels also are a part of you because there is so many different styles, it is a way to express yourself.

Best reaction when you told someone that you are a pole dancer?

“Oh so that is how you can afford a house in Southern California”. They assumed I was a stripper making bank and that was how I bought my first house in San Diego at the age of 21….little did they know I just worked my ass off with my jobs and saved.

What’s one pole stereotype that you wish would go away?

That all pole dancers are strippers. Not every dancer is a stripper, some dance for the fitness aspect about it, others dance because they feel good about themselves when they dance. Every person is different. And don’t get me wrong if you want to be a stripper that is fine that is up to you. A lot of people that I have know and meet just automatically assume you are one just because you dance. There are many different types of pole dancing.

How do you go upside down on the pole?

It’s all upper body strength, this includes your arms, shoulders and core. you tend to use your armpit a lot.

Looking back at your life, are you surprised that you’re a pole dancer?

Mmmmm…not really actually. I have always liked the “things” that are misunderstood, unique, and things that people judge quickly about. Just like Pitbulls, the color black, bats etc.

What’s your favorite pole? Size? Material? Height? Static? Spin?

The taller the better. I love my stage but I do not love how small the diameter of it is. I wish it had an extra 4ft around so I could do more. But it is very convenient for traveling using outside etc. Chrome is my favorite material, 45mm.

Do you train on both sides when you pole? Why or why not?

Yes! Whatever you do on one side you do one the other side. This allows you to work both sides equally so you kind of don’t end up having only one “good side”, an d it helps build up strength on both sides.

Aren’t you worried about your job/life/getting a partner?

First of all what I do outside my job for fitness should not matter. Secondly, if a guy does not like the fact I pole dance or can’t accept the fact that I do then he does not need to be in my life. I won’t stop doing something I like just because a potential partner says they do not like it.

Why don’t you share a lot about pole dancing on your social media?

I actually have a separate pole account. I do not post as often on it, but it is there and I do post pole content every now and then, sometimes I post to my personal account too.

What are your favorite pole clothes?

I tend to wear a lot of bikinis, garter stockings, and hoodies. I have not found any pole clothing company’s that I am a big fan of yet. Mainly because not a lot of places have a huge selection of black items, and the ones that they do just aren’t my style. Also, the more skin contact there is the better, so less clothes is better.

If you’re not a full-time poler, how do you balance work and pole? Friends and pole? Life and Pole?

When I first started dancing I only went once or twice a week. Soon it turned into 5-6 days a week, about 2 classes per day, within about a month and a half of attending my first studio I also started working there. Now I have been to multiple studios, taken online classes, taken instructor courses, teach online courses, and I try to dance everyday since I have my own XPole XStage in my house. Some days I dance at night and other days I start my morning dancing and end my night dancing too.

I have a selective amount of friends, and those friends do not care that I pole dance. Even if they did I wouldn’t care, and the same goes for everyone else. I don’t care what others think, just what I think and how I feel. There have been plenty of people to criticize me for it and even guys not want to be with me because of it and that’s on them not me.

How has pole dancing affected your life?

It has helped me become more flexible, and also allowed me to learn to love myself and be even more confident.

Can you do it even if you don’t have much upper body strength?

Yes, you build your body strength up as you go.

Do I need to be a good dancer to do pole?

No. I was horrible at first, and sometimes I still am.

How long have you been pole dancing?

I have been dancing since 2019.
